Tour excursion to Florio Donnafugata cellars
The guided tour of the historic Cantine Florio or Donnafugata starts with the majestic giant vats, eight unique specimens built at the end of the 19th century and still used to refine the marsala. Passing the large vats, you can directly enter the GARIBALDI Room, a large space that opens up to welcome the visitor and from which it is possible to catch a glimpse of the fascinating barrels. Here you can admire the weapons donated by GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI to VINCENZO FLORIO, to thank him for the loyalty shown in 1860, and from here we proceed through the Sale FLORIO and Ingham-Woodhouseper to finally discover the barrels. Fascinating places, 165 meters long interspersed with 104 arches, under which 1,400 caratelli and about 600 barrels and vats of different capacity are lined up. Crossing the threshold of the historic rooms, it leads to the actual Cellar, an evocative and magical environment where, in silence and stillness, about 5,500,000 liters of Marsala are kept. After an exciting tour of about thirty minutes through the barrels, where the ancient tufa floor has been restored, you enter the tasting room.
DONNAFRANCA born from a new way of conceiving the spaces of the Cellar, in this Hall the tasting is transformed into a moment of pleasure in an evocative experience, which involves all the senses and solicits them with colors, sounds and perfumes. In this innovative space, obtained from one of the naves in tufa, the guest is welcomed by background music, a play of suggestive lights and is led to the tasting by a virtual guide that accompanies him in the discovery of sensations, flavors and aromas unexpected. The visit to the winery ends in ENOTECA FLORIO, an avant-garde and unique store in Italy, which welcomes all the DUCA DI SALAPARUTA, CORVO and FLORIO wines, as well as a selection of excellences of craftsmanship and typical Sicilian products. Donnafugata welcomes all year round the curious and wine lovers at their historic cellars in Marsala, where you can take guided tours through the cellar and the underground barriccaia, taste wines and choose from six proposals to get to know Donnafugata and its wines through professional tastings and refined pairings with the specialties of Mediterranean cuisine.
Visits and tastings are available by reservation only, therefore requests without reservation can be satisfied only on availability at the moment, it is possible to book even one person and for a maximum of 45 pax per tour.
